Audience Matching

Firstly → what is audience matching and why do we care about it?

Audience matching is how Instagram and most SEO based social platforms index your content.

This can take Instagram up to 3-4 weeks depending on how warm or cold you account is.

The “warmth” of account is dependent on how old the account is, how often you post, how often you post stories, and the overall engagement from those activities.

Our goal as new creators (or creators trying to switch niches / rebrand) is to get matched to an audience in the shortest time possible.

This is how we make sure Instagram is putting our content in front of the right people.

SEO INTEGRATION

We touched on SEO when setting up your account but the main things to consider are:

  1. Imagery in your videos

Instagram uses Ai to match the look of your videos to other similar videos in your niche.

As someone who makes content about content it would make sense for me to have lots of imagery of cameras, editing timelines, analytics, etc. in my videos.

This goes for any niche and the associated imagery.

It also scans for the people that are known with a niche → thats why you see people “expert hacking” and mentioning the big names in there space. (i.e. content and Mr. Beast.)

So when filming and storyboarding keep in mind the imagery you saw in your competitors videos.

We stand out using our other brand elements so it feels new and overlap with common objects so it’s not foreign.

  2. Words in your videos and captions

This is a bit more straight forward, go to the instagram search bar and type up the related keywords to your account

What pops up are the phrases and words you want to use within your content.

During competitor analysis I also told you to write down the keywords you heard repeatedly. Including these will help get you audience matched in no time.

Keep in mind you could do this perfectly and Instagram could still take it’s sweet time, what is going to blow you up isn’t perfect SEO → it’s perfect content.

TRIAL REELS

The reason we want to use Trial Reels is:

  1. They’re insane for growth and keeping your account warm. Probably 75% of my followers are from Trial Reels alone.

Basically they show your content to ONLY non-followers, meaning infinite room for new engagement and eyes on your account.

  2. They help facilitate audience matching if done right. Instead of 1 video a week categorizing you, what if you had 35?

See before you could spam up to 60 trial reels a day no problem. But in the latest update Instagram placed a soft cap on Trial Reels because of how bad creators spammed them. You now get flagged for posting similar videos to many times and be 30 day banned from the feature entirely.

The safe range: 3–5 Trial Reels per day. (Spamming lowers reach. Focus on quality testing, not volume.)

Step 1: Review Past Performance To See What’s Working

  1. Professional dash board

  2. Content you shared

  3. Metics (you switch metrics by pressing the little settings incon in the )

Identify top 10 reels by views & Identify top 10 reels by follower growth

  4. Note recurring patterns in hooks, visuals, and topics.

Step 2: Prepare Trial Reels

For each new reel idea, create 3 different hooks:

  1. Pattern Interrupt / Shocking Stat

    • Example: “90% of people waste half their gym time doing this wrong.”

  2. Relatable Pain Point

    • Example: “If your chicken always comes out dry, you’re making this mistake.”

  3. Curiosity Gap / Bold Promise

    • Example: “This $100 trick will save you thousands this year.”

Film one body, test three hooks.

Step 3: Posting Strategy

  • Post each hook as a separate Trial Reel (5-10 per day max).

  • Space posts a few hours apart. (around 2-3)

  • After 24h, check:

    • Non-follower reach %

    • 3-second views %

    • Follows generated

Use Professional Dashboard → Content You Shared → Metric: Follows.

Reels that drive follows are worth reposting.

Step 4: Weekly & Monthly Analysis

Weekly:

  • Remove low performers.

  • Save high performers.

  • Document what worked (hooks, visuals, captions, music).

Monthly:

  • Compare growth rates.

  • Identify top content themes.

  • Build next month’s content calendar from winning formats.

Step 5: Optimization

  • Repost winning Trial Reels multiple times, daily.

  • Test the same video with new hooks.

  • Add DM automation (ManyChat or similar) to capture leads.

Activation Link (if you don’t have them yet)

Trial Reels might need to be enabled on some accounts. Use this link to turn them on (95% it’s patched as of November 2025, but give it a whirl):
